Pune Societies Inundated as Khadakwasla Dam Releases Water After Heavy Rain

Water from the Khadakwasla dam entered the parking lots of three housing societies in Pune on Wednesday after the irrigation department opened the dam's shutters following heavy rain that filled it to capacity.

The irrigation department had issued an alert on Tuesday about the possibility of water release due to high inflow. The release began at midnight at a slow rate of 842 cusecs, but increased to 27,203 cusecs by morning, causing water to enter localities along the Mutha river.

Affected societies include Dwarka and Jal Poojan Society in Ektanagari on Sinhagad Road and Krishna Residency in the Bhimnagar area of Kondhwe-Dhawade, where water gushed into parking areas.
