Puducherry: Four Arrested for Assaulting Journalist Covering Illegal Banner Removal

The Puducherry police have arrested four individuals for allegedly assaulting a reporter while he was covering the removal of unauthorised banners linked to a local legislator. The incident took place on Sunday on Vazhudavur Road, where Public Works Department (PWD) officials were clearing banners that had been put up without permission.

The reporter, identified as Rajkumar, works for a Tamil daily. According to police, he was filming the argument between PWD officials and supporters of Independent legislator Azhagu alias Azhaganantham, who represents the Kadirgamam Assembly constituency. The banners were erected to announce the inauguration of the MLA's office, and supporters objected to their removal.

During the altercation, four men allegedly attacked Rajkumar, causing injuries to his head and neck. He was treated as an outpatient at a government hospital, police confirmed. The exact nature of his injuries has not been disclosed, but he is reported to be stable.
