Puducherry court orders Tamil Nadu Minister Marie Wilson to personally receive additional charge sheet in assault case

The First Judicial Magistrate Court in Puducherry has directed Tamil Nadu Finance Minister N. Marie Wilson to appear in person on July 10 to receive an additional charge sheet filed by the Lawspet police. The charge sheet pertains to a case involving the alleged assault of a woman.

Mr. Wilson was scheduled to appear before the court on Saturday (July 4, 2026) to receive the charge sheet. However, his advocate informed the court that the Minister was unable to attend due to his ministerial responsibilities. After hearing the advocate, the court ordered the Minister to appear “in person without fail” to receive the charge sheet and a copy of data on a pen drive, which the complainant has submitted as evidence of the alleged offence.

The case was registered in 2022 based on a complaint by Careline Claude, the wife of the Minister’s brother, who resides in Ezhil Nagar, Puducherry. She alleged that the Minister trespassed into her house and assaulted and abused her during a property dispute.

The Lawspet police initially filed a First Information Report (FIR) but the complainant challenged it, arguing that only minor provisions of the law were invoked. Following the court’s directions, a fresh charge sheet including more serious provisions was filed by the police. As part of the legal procedure, the court has directed the accused to appear to receive the additional charge sheet.
