Police Lathicharge, Teargas Protesters Marching to Parliament in Delhi
A protest march organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) towards Parliament was met with resistance from Delhi Police and paramilitary forces on Monday afternoon. The protesters, who had gathered at the Jantar Mantar area, attempted to cross barricades set up to prevent them from reaching Parliament, located about 700 metres away.
According to reports, police personnel resorted to lathicharge and fired teargas shells to control the crowd. The clashes occurred at the intersection of Ashoka Road and Sansad Marg, where protesters had nearly reached their destination. Officers were seen trying to manage the situation as some protesters managed to break through the barricades at a few points.
The authorities had deployed additional forces in the area to prevent any escalation. The Jantar Mantar site, historically a venue for peaceful protests, saw the dismantling of stages and dispersal of crowds as the police action intensified. The protest had been building momentum since the morning, but the police intervention slowed its pace.
No official statement has been released by either the CJP or the police regarding the number of arrests or injuries. The area remained tense through the afternoon, with security personnel maintaining a heavy presence.
