PM Modi in Mann Ki Baat: India's Self-Reliance in Defence and Aviation, and a Warning Against Superstition

In the 135th episode of his monthly radio address 'Mann Ki Baat' on October 29, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted India's growing self-reliance in defence and aviation, citing the induction of the C-295 transport aircraft. He said, 'From the seas to the skies, our India is becoming increasingly secure and self-reliant.'

The PM noted that the C-295, a medium tactical transport aircraft, is being manufactured in India in collaboration with Airbus. This, he said, marks a significant step towards the government's vision of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India) in defence production. The aircraft will replace the aging Avro fleet of the Indian Air Force.

Modi also praised the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), a government-backed accident insurance scheme. He stated that the scheme has provided a safety net to millions of Indians at a nominal premium of just ₹12 per year. The scheme offers coverage of up to ₹2 lakh in case of accidental death or permanent total disability.

In a departure from his usual themes, the Prime Minister warned citizens against superstition. He urged people to adopt a scientific temperament and not fall prey to baseless beliefs. Without naming any specific incident, he said, 'We must not allow superstition to harm our society. We should rely on science and reason.'

Addressing the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, Modi lauded the public response in India. He acknowledged the government's efforts to bring back Indians stranded in conflict zones and thanked the citizens for their cooperation and vigilance. The Prime Minister reiterated India's consistent support for peace and stability in the region.

The 'Mann Ki Baat' programme, which broadcasts on the last Sunday of every month, has become a platform for the PM to communicate directly with the nation. The 135th episode covered a range of topics from national security to social issues.
