PM Modi Forms High-Powered Task Force for Exam Reforms, Nilekani to Lead
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced the formation of a high-powered task force for examination reforms, to be led by Infosys founder Nandan Nilekani. The task force, constituted under the National Testing Agency (NTA), aims to improve the credibility and transparency of the examination system.
The task force includes former ISRO Chairman S. Somnath, former Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, IIT Chennai Director V. Kamakoti, former Education Secretary Anita Karwal, and logistics expert Amrit Lal Meena.
In a post on Instagram, Prime Minister Modi stated: 'The Government of India is continuously taking various measures for the future of students. Those who tampered with the students’ future are languishing in jail.' He highlighted that fast-track courts have already been established, and new legislation with stringent legal provisions is being moved in Parliament.
Modi added: 'However, we must look to the future. Our examination system needs to be reliable and transparent, and it must make maximum use of technology.' He said the task force, under Nilekani's leadership, will focus on examination reforms, and steps will be taken based on its report to ensure the credibility of upcoming examinations at the earliest.
The announcement comes a day after Dharmendra Pradhan resigned as Union Education Minister and a protest group known as the Cockroach Janta Party ended their demonstrations at Jantar Mantar. The protests had been against exam paper leaks and unemployment, reflecting widespread discontent among students.
