PM Modi assures steps to prevent exam paper leaks, says Rijiju
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has outlined steps to prevent future leaks of examination papers. The remarks come in the wake of the NEET paper leak incident.
Addressing reporters after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) parliamentary party meeting, Rijiju said that the government acted swiftly following the leak. “Prioritising the students’ futures, a re-examination was successfully conducted without delay in declaring the results,” he added.
Rijiju further stated that Prime Minister Modi emphasised the need to punish those responsible and to collaboratively establish a foolproof system to avert such incidents in the future.
The comments follow the arrest of several individuals in connection with the NEET paper leak. Meanwhile, opposition parties have demanded accountability from the government, including the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. A march by a political group to Parliament on Monday was met with a lathi charge and temporary internet restrictions.
In the Rajya Sabha on Monday, Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue of paper leaks and student protests but was disallowed from discussing matters not on the agenda. The opposition accused the government of suppressing discussion on the issue during the Monsoon session.
