Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday telephoned Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to inquire about the ongoing flood situation and offered the Centre's full support in relief and rehabilitation efforts, Mr. Sarma said.

In a post on social media platform X, Mr. Sarma stated that the Prime Minister sought an update on the extent of devastation, relief operations, and challenges faced on the ground. Mr. Sarma briefed the Prime Minister on measures undertaken by the state government to reach out to affected families.

“Expressing his deep condolences over the loss of lives and property, the Honourable Prime Minister assured the people of Assam that this calamity is being accorded the highest priority and the Government of India will extend every possible support to aid our relief, rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts,” Mr. Sarma posted.

The flood situation in Assam remained grim on Saturday, though water levels have started receding in some areas. According to official reports, 61 people have died in the deluge, and over 7.05 lakh people across nine districts have been affected. The state government continues to carry out rescue and relief operations.

Mr. Sarma thanked the Prime Minister for his reassurance and steadfast support during the crisis.
