PM Modi Announces High-Powered Education Reform Task Force Led by Nandan Nilekani
The BJP-led NDA government has constituted a high-powered task force to propose next-generation reforms in India's education sector. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the announcement on his Instagram handle on Sunday.
The task force is chaired by Nandan Nilekani, co-founder and chairman of Infosys Technologies Limited. Nilekani previously served as the founding chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) from 2009 to 2014, holding the rank of a Cabinet Minister. In January 2023, he was appointed co-chair of the G20 Task Force on Digital Public Infrastructure for Economic Transformation, Financial Inclusion, and Development.
Nilekani also chaired the Technology Advisory Group for Unique Projects (TAGUP) established in 2010, which influenced the IT systems for large-scale public initiatives, including the Goods and Services Tax (GST). He holds a Bachelor's degree from IIT Bombay and was born in Bengaluru.
The task force includes six experts, though their names have not been disclosed in the announcement. The panel is expected to focus on examination reforms and the broader transformation of India's education system.
