PM Modi Advocates Fusion of Technology with India's Traditional Knowledge

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has thrown his weight behind the integration of modern technology with India's rich repository of traditional knowledge, a move that could reshape sectors from agriculture to healthcare. Speaking at a conference on indigenous innovations, Modi emphasised that ancient wisdom, when combined with cutting-edge tools, can offer solutions to contemporary challenges.

The Prime Minister stated that India's traditional knowledge systems—spanning Ayurveda, yoga, sustainable farming, and crafts—hold immense potential for global good. He called for a systematic effort to document and digitise these practices, making them accessible to researchers and entrepreneurs. 'We must not treat tradition as static,' Modi said. 'Instead, we should see it as a living heritage that evolves with science and technology.'

This push aligns with the government's National Education Policy 2020, which encourages interdisciplinary study and the revival of ancient Indian knowledge systems. The policy aims to break down silos between modern science and traditional learning, fostering innovation rooted in cultural wisdom.

Technology leaders and scholars have welcomed the initiative, though some caution against romanticising the past without rigorous validation. The government has already launched portals like the Traditional Knowledge Digital Library to protect India's heritage from biopiracy. With Modi's renewed emphasis, more resources are expected to flow into research labs and startup incubators working on tech-tradition fusion.

The Prime Minister's remarks come at a time when India is positioning itself as a hub for digital innovation and seeks to leverage its unique cultural assets for economic growth. Critics argue that the focus should remain on basic infrastructure and literacy, but supporters see this as a long-term investment in sustainable development.
