Parliament Monsoon Session Resumes Amid Opposition Protests Over NEET Leak, Student Crackdown
Parliament's Monsoon Session resumed on Wednesday amid continued disruptions by Opposition members, who are demanding discussions on the alleged NEET paper leak, police action against students in Delhi, and the reported theft of donations meant for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
On Tuesday, both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha faced repeated adjournments as Opposition MPs raised slogans and pressed for immediate debates on these issues. In the Lok Sabha, protests erupted as soon as the House assembled for Question Hour, forcing Speaker Om Birla to adjourn proceedings briefly.
In the Rajya Sabha, Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge sought to raise the police action against students, leading to counter-slogans from the treasury benches. Deputy Chairman Harivansh adjourned the House for the day after multiple attempts to restore order failed.
The government has so far resisted demands for a structured debate, citing prior scheduling of business. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi urged Opposition parties to allow the House to function, stating that discussions can take place under the rules.
The Opposition, however, remains adamant, arguing that these issues—ranging from examination integrity to the handling of student protests—require urgent parliamentary attention. The alleged theft of funds collected for the Ram Temple construction has added to the tensions.
As the session resumes, both Houses are expected to witness further confrontations unless a compromise is reached between the ruling coalition and Opposition parties. The monsoon session, originally scheduled to pass key legislation, has so far been marred by disruptions.
