Pakistan States Iran-US Talks to Resume Next Week Amid West Asia Peace Efforts
Pakistan announced on Wednesday that negotiations between the United States and Iran are expected to resume next week, marking a continued effort to restore peace in West Asia.
In a statement, Pakistan's Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi confirmed that the talks, which have been ongoing with mediation from Pakistan and Qatar, are set to continue. 'Parties are on the table, and the process is ongoing,' Andrabi said, adding that the resumption is a 'positive development.'
Last week, the United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at restoring peace in the region. Following that, technical-level talks were held in Burgenstock, Switzerland, on June 22, with Pakistan and Qatar serving as mediators. The parties agreed on a 60-day roadmap towards a final peace deal.
'Our delegation was there in Burgenstock for the 22nd June talks. I understand that our delegation will also be there when the talks resume next week,' Andrabi stated, noting that the pause in talks is temporary and not a breakdown.
As of now, neither the United States nor Iran has publicly commented on the expected resumption of talks. The discussions are part of broader diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in West Asia, a region that has experienced prolonged conflict.
