Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Announce Nationwide Strike as Price Talks Collapse
The All Pakistan Petrol Pumps Owners Association (APPPOA) has declared a nationwide indefinite strike beginning Wednesday night, following the failure of talks with the government over daily fuel pricing, Pakistani newspaper Dawn reported.
The association’s core demand is that fuel prices should be revised on a monthly basis rather than the current daily system. The strike was announced after a meeting on Tuesday with a government team led by Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, which APPPOA representatives described as having “failed” to reach an agreement after an hour of negotiations.
APPPOA Vice Chairman Nauman Ali Butt said the government’s decision to revise petroleum prices daily was “unacceptable to petrol pump dealers and unworkable.” He also noted that the long-standing demand for an increase in dealer commissions, which have been frozen for three years, has not been addressed.
The strike is expected to affect fuel supplies across Pakistan, potentially causing disruptions for consumers and businesses. As of now, the government has not issued an official response regarding the next steps.
