Over 56,000 Students Get Provisional Seats in TNEA Round 3 Counselling
The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) committee has released the results of the third round of counselling for the 2026 academic year, with a total of 56,294 candidates receiving seat allotments. The allotments include both provisional and tentative seats, based on category and preference.
According to an official press release, the general category saw 48,501 students receive provisional allotments, while 6,183 students who opted for upward mobility were given tentative allotments. In the horizontal reservation category — which reserves 7.5% of seats for government school students — 1,172 students received provisional allotments, and 438 secured tentative allotments.
Students who received provisional allotments must report to their allotted colleges and complete the admission formalities on or before August 27, 2026. Those with tentative allotments are required to visit the designated TNEA Facilitation Centre (TFC), surrender their original certificates, and pay the tuition fees specified in their allotment order by the same date. This process will confirm their current seats while allowing them to retain the option of moving to a better seat if one becomes available in later stages.
The TNEA committee has issued a clear warning: candidates who fail to report to their allotted college or TFC within the stipulated deadline will have their seats cancelled. Such cancelled seats will be pooled back into the system and made available to candidates who opted for upward mobility and have completed the required formalities at the TFCs.
This round marks an important step in the engineering admission process in Tamil Nadu, which is conducted entirely online through the TNEA portal. Candidates are advised to check their allotment status on the official website and follow the instructions carefully to avoid losing their seats. The next stages of counselling will depend on the number of vacancies that remain after the current round of reporting and fee payment.
