Opposition MPs Show Support at Protest Site After Police Action
On Tuesday, a day after Delhi Police used batons and tear gas to disperse protesters participating in the 'Sansad Chalo' rally, several opposition Members of Parliament visited Jantar Mantar to express solidarity with the demonstrators. Among those present were Sanjay Raut and Arvind Sawant of Shiv Sena (UBT), and John Brittas of CPI(M). They met members of the Cockroach Janta Party and injured protesters who had returned to the site after receiving medical treatment.
In a separate incident, a Congress leader's SUV was parked at a location that offered a clear view of the party's protest near Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence. Initially, the Congress leader did not allow anyone to lean on the vehicle. However, once police began detaining party MPs, he permitted people to use the car to shoot videos of the police action. Some Congress workers stood on the roof of the SUV to film leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, being pushed into police buses. The vehicle sustained multiple dents, but the Congress leader described it as a 'sacrifice for the country and the youth'.
