NTT DATA expands Karnataka footprint post-Niveus Solutions acquisition
Japan-based IT services company NTT DATA has expanded its operations in Silicon Beach, a term used by industry leaders to refer to the coastal Karnataka region, following its acquisition of Udupi-based cloud engineering firm Niveus Solutions in 2025.
Deepak Sathya, Executive Managing Director (Cloud and Security – India head) at NTT DATA, told The Hindu that approximately 1,000 employees from Niveus Solutions are now part of NTT DATA's 40,000-strong workforce in India. He said the team in Mangaluru-Udupi is now working on multiple cloud platforms, including Amazon and Microsoft, beyond Google Cloud.
“After the acquisition, there are no boundaries between the Niveus team and the NTT DATA team. Now it all depends on the talent that we are able to develop in Mangaluru,” Sathya said.
Referring to Karnataka, he noted that the company's largest delivery centres are in the state. “In Bengaluru itself, we have three very large delivery centres. Outside Bengaluru, it is in Mangaluru in Karnataka. The company also has delivery centres in Noida, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Mumbai. We do not have any special expansion plans for Karnataka because it happens naturally.”
Sathya added that NTT DATA has a diverse portfolio and the Mangaluru operations currently contribute a small percentage of overall work. “I am speaking with my peers and colleagues in other global practices so that they can also expand to Mangaluru,” he said.
NTT DATA operates in more than 50 countries and offers services including business and technology consulting, data and artificial intelligence, industry solutions, and application development and management.
According to the Silicon Beach Program (SBP), three home-grown tech firms in the region have been acquired in the past two years, totalling around $250 million in investment in the Mangaluru-Udupi region. SBP is a Section 8 company that promotes economic growth in coastal Karnataka using the technology industry as a catalyst.
Earlier in 2025, R Systems International Ltd acquired Mangaluru-based Novigo Solutions, a specialist in low-code/no-code development. In 2021, Japan's TechnoPro Holdings acquired Udupi-based Robosoft Technologies.
