NMC grants 150 MBBS seats to Alva’s Institute of Medical Sciences from 2026-27

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved 150 MBBS seats for Alva’s Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (AIMSRC) in Mijar, Moodbidri, starting from the academic year 2026-27. The approval was confirmed in a statement issued by the Alva’s Education Foundation, which operates the institute.

The foundation described the NMC nod as a major milestone for its medical education project. AIMSRC, located adjacent to National Highway 169 in Mijar, aims to integrate medical education with advanced healthcare services and research. The institution has committed to providing quality education through modern infrastructure, well-equipped laboratories, hospital facilities, and experienced faculty, the statement added.

The approval will enable 150 students to pursue MBBS in the first academic year, creating fresh opportunities for medical aspirants in Karnataka, particularly in the coastal region. Beyond enhancing medical education, the institute is expected to contribute to healthcare and medical research, the foundation said.

Foundation chairman M. Mohan Alva expressed gratitude to the NMC, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, the Karnataka government, the State Health and Family Welfare Department, and the Dakshina Kannada District Health Department for their support. He called the approval a new chapter for the foundation in medical education and a step toward training competent doctors and improving healthcare access.
