Neymar set to return for Brazil's World Cup clash against Scotland, confirms coach Ancelotti

Brazil's star forward Neymar is expected to be available for the team's final Group stage match against Scotland on June 25, manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed after Brazil's 3-0 victory over Haiti.

The 34-year-old has been recovering from a calf strain and last played for Santos in Brazil's top flight on May 17. His availability provides a significant boost to the Brazilian squad, especially with concern over Raphinha's injury.

“Neymar will be training tomorrow individually and on Monday he’s going to be training with the rest of the team,” Ancelotti said in the post-match press conference. “He will be available for the match against Scotland.”

Injuries limited Neymar during Brazil’s 2026 qualifying campaign. However, he was influential when he played, scoring twice and contributing three assists in four appearances.

The match against Scotland is crucial as both teams vie for knockout stage berths. Brazil sit atop Group C after their convincing win over Haiti, while Scotland have struggled with inconsistency. Neymar's experience and creativity could prove decisive in unlocking a stubborn Scottish defence.

Ancelotti expressed cautious optimism about Neymar's fitness: “We are taking it step by step. He has worked hard to recover, and we believe he will be ready.” The forward's return would mark his first competitive appearance since May, when he played for Santos in a domestic league match.

Brazil fans will hope Neymar can replicate his influential form from the qualifiers, where he contributed five goals and assists in limited game time. The five-time world champions aim to clinch top spot in the group and build momentum for the knockout rounds.
