Netaji's Grand-nephew Chandra Kumar Bose Resigns from Trinamool Congress
Chandra Kumar Bose, the grand-nephew of freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, has resigned from the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), citing personal reasons. The development comes months after he joined the party ahead of the West Bengal assembly elections.
In a resignation letter addressed to TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, Bose said, "I hereby tender my resignation from the primary membership of the All India Trinamool Congress with immediate effect, due to personal reasons. I wish you and the AITC all the very best in all its future endeavours."
Bose had joined the TMC on April 12, weeks before the 2021 state polls, in which the TMC secured a decisive victory over the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). At the induction ceremony, he described his earlier stint with the BJP as a "mistake".
His political journey has seen several shifts. Bose joined the BJP in 2016 in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a rally in Howrah. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he contested from the Kolkata Dakshin constituency on a BJP ticket but lost to TMC's Mala Roy.
He quit the BJP after being called for a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearing, a process related to the verification of citizenship for Indian-origin people. Bose had questioned the move, asking why his citizenship was being doubted when he was the grand-nephew of Netaji. He has also been vocal about preserving Netaji's legacy and has filed pleas related to the distortion of history.
Since the 2021 assembly elections, in which the TMC neutralised the BJP's challenge, Bose has remained inactive in active politics. His latest resignation appears to be a personal decision, with no immediate indication of any political re-alignment. Neither Bose nor the TMC leadership has elaborated further on the reasons for his departure.
