NEET-UG Retest: NMC Asks Medical Colleges to Deny Student Leave on June 20-21
NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed all medical colleges in India to remain vigilant and avoid granting leave to students on June 20 and 21, ahead of the NEET-UG retest scheduled for June 21. The directive, issued through a notice, cites past instances where medical college students were found involved in activities that could compromise the integrity of the examination.
The move follows a communication from the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education to the Ministry of Health. The communication noted that in previous years, some medical college students had been implicated in actions that threatened the sanctity of examinations, and requested that colleges take preventive measures.
In its notice, the NMC advised colleges to sensitise students against participation in any activity that could be prejudicial to the conduct of the exam. The commission stated that the measure is intended as a deterrent. Colleges have been instructed not to grant leave to students on June 20 and 21 except in exceptional circumstances, and only with proper justification.
The NEET-UG retest is being conducted after the original exam faced allegations of irregularities, including a paper leak. The retest aims to ensure fairness and transparency in the admissions process for undergraduate medical courses.
