NEET Retest: Student Body Seeks Clarity on Candidate Attendance Figures
The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has called on the National Testing Agency (NTA) to release detailed attendance figures for the NEET-UG re-examination conducted on June 21. The student organisation stated that the NTA has only announced that 'more than 20 lakh aspirants' appeared for the retest, while the original exam on May 3 saw approximately 22 lakh candidates. This discrepancy raises questions about the nearly two lakh candidates who did not sit for the re-examination.
The SFI expressed concerns that the cancellation of the May 3 examination caused distress among aspirants and their families. The organisation cited reports that around 20 students took their own lives in the aftermath of the alleged paper leak. However, these claims have not been independently verified by official sources.
To assist affected students, the SFI has launched a 'NEET Complaint Cell' and stated that it will pursue valid grievances through legal and political channels, including taking suggestions from students and families.
