NEET Paper Leak Protests: Activist Wangchuk Hospitalised, Dipke Begins Indefinite Fast
Protesters demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET-UG paper leak saw their movement intensify on Saturday. Activist Sonam Wangchuk was taken to Safdarjung Hospital by Delhi Police on the 21st day of his indefinite fast after his health deteriorated. Meanwhile, Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke announced an indefinite hunger strike in solidarity.
Delhi Police stated that Wangchuk's hospitalisation was based on medical advice and directions from the Delhi High Court. The police action came a day after the Union Ministry of Home Affairs replaced Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golchha with Anurag Kumar. Soon after taking charge, Kumar reportedly met with senior officers and began formulating a strategy to remove Wangchuk from the protest site at Jantar Mantar.
Wangchuk and other activists have been camped at Jantar Mantar for weeks, demanding accountability for the alleged NEET-UG paper leak, which affected thousands of medical aspirants. The protest has drawn attention to the government's handling of the examination process.
Dipke's indefinite fast adds a new dimension to the agitation. He has previously been involved in protests on issues ranging from corruption to student rights. The protest remains peaceful, with participants calling for a transparent investigation into the paper leak and the resignation of the education minister.
The Delhi High Court is monitoring the situation, and police have assured that they are acting within legal bounds to ensure public order and the safety of protesters.
