NEET Controversy: Dimple Yadav Joins Opposition 'Sansad Chalo' Protest at Jantar Mantar

New Delhi: Samajwadi Party leader Dimple Yadav joined the Congress-led 'Sansad Chalo' protest at Jantar Mantar on Tuesday, adding momentum to the opposition's demand for a parliamentary investigation into alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG 2024 examination.

The protest, organized by the Congress party under its 'Sansad Chalo' campaign, saw participation from several opposition leaders. The march, which began at Jantar Mantar and aimed to proceed towards Parliament, was part of a coordinated effort to pressure the government into addressing concerns over the medical entrance exam.

Dimple Yadav, a Member of Parliament from Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, was seen holding placards and chanting slogans alongside other protestors. The slogan 'NEET hai ya cheat hai?' was prominently raised by the demonstrators, reflecting their demand for a thorough probe into the examination process.

The NEET-UG 2024 exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), has been marred by allegations of a paper leak, grace marks controversy, and other irregularities. The opposition has been demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation, while the government has maintained that the matter is being handled by the NTA and the Supreme Court.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi have been vocal in their criticism of the government's handling of the issue. The 'Sansad Chalo' protest is part of a series of actions planned by the opposition to highlight the alleged malpractices.

The protest at Jantar Mantar drew a significant crowd, with supporters from various political parties and student groups. Police were deployed in large numbers to maintain order. The march was eventually stopped by authorities near Parliament Street, with several leaders being detained briefly.

This development comes amidst ongoing legal proceedings in the Supreme Court, which is hearing petitions related to the NEET-UG 2024 exam. The court has asked the NTA to respond to allegations of irregularities and has scheduled the next hearing for July 18.

The opposition has accused the government of covering up the issue and has called for a fair and transparent investigation. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has dismissed the allegations as politically motivated and has accused the opposition of trying to destabilize the education system.
