NCERT Class IX Textbook Now Includes SIR Module

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has introduced the 'SIR' module into the Class IX textbook, as per recent updates to the curriculum. This move aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises skill development and holistic learning.

While the exact details of the SIR module are still emerging, early reports indicate that it aims to provide students with self-instructional resources to supplement classroom learning. The module is expected to cover topics such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and digital literacy, enhancing the educational experience for ninth-grade students.

Education experts have welcomed the inclusion, noting that it promotes independent learning and reduces the reliance on rote memorisation. However, some have raised concerns about the implementation, given the varying levels of digital access across schools in India.

The NCERT has not yet released an official statement detailing the content or objectives of the SIR module. Further updates are awaited as the academic year progresses.
