Mumbai Schools Shut as Orange Alert Issued; Building Collapse Kills 5; Union Minister's Office Purge
Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Mumbai on Tuesday, warning of heavy rain and gusty winds. In response, all government, private, and civic-run schools and colleges in the city were closed as a precautionary measure.
The monsoon's toll on the city deepened overnight as a building collapse in the Mankhurd area claimed the lives of a woman and her four children. The husband, who had informed authorities that the family would vacate the next day, survived. Mankhurd has a history of deadly building collapses, often linked to illegal construction and delayed action by authorities.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, three senior officials in the office of Union Minister Bhupender Yadav have been removed in quick succession. One was shunted out on "administrative grounds," one prematurely repatriated, and one had their appointment terminated. No official explanation has been provided publicly.
