Mumbai Police Probes Alleged Threat to Actor Aamir Khan Over ‘Love Jihad’ Claim
Mumbai Police are examining the authenticity of a social media post and a voice note that purportedly contain a threat against Bollywood actor Aamir Khan. The alleged threat, which surfaced on Saturday, accuses the actor of promoting what right-wing groups term 'love jihad', officials said.
Police Commissioner Deven Bharti confirmed the inquiry, stating, 'We are examining the veracity of the social media post and voice clip.' No formal complaint has been filed by Khan or his representatives regarding the alleged threat so far.
The purported threat was issued in a social media post and an accompanying voice clip by individuals identifying themselves as Arzu Bishnoi and Tyson Bishnoi, who claim to be associates of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, a police official said. The message accuses Khan of encouraging 'love jihad' – a controversial term used by some right-wing groups to allege a conspiracy by Muslim men to lure Hindu women into relationships and marriage to convert them to Islam. The accusation appears linked to Khan’s recent third marriage to Gauri Spratt, though the marriage itself has not been publicly discussed in that context.
The voice note also refers to a recent case involving a 13-year-old girl in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar district who was allegedly abducted, trafficked and sexually assaulted, warning political leaders against shielding any accused persons.
The claims regarding the threat have not been independently verified. The Bishnoi gang, led by Lawrence Bishnoi, has been involved in a long-running feud with actor Salman Khan stemming from a 1998 blackbuck poaching case. That conflict escalated to a shooting at Khan’s Mumbai residence in 2024, ongoing death threats, and international indictments.
Recently, the United States charged Lawrence Bishnoi and his aide Satinderjeet Singh alias Goldy Brar with ordering the assassination of Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. In April, Mumbai Police filed a chargesheet against 17 accused in a firing incident at the home of filmmaker Rohit Shetty, with the Bishnoi gang claiming responsibility.
The latest development involving Aamir Khan adds another dimension to the gang’s pattern of targeting public figures. Police are continuing their investigation to verify the origin and credibility of the threat.
