Mumbai Fire: Toddler and Woman Dead, Six Injured in Vile Parle Residential Blaze
Mumbai, February 25: A fire broke out on the 11th floor of a 12-storey residential building in Vile Parle West on Tuesday night, resulting in the deaths of a 2.5-year-old child and a 23-year-old woman. Six other persons were injured, according to the Mumbai Fire Brigade.
The blaze was reported at approximately 10:02 pm. It was initially classified as a Level-1 fire at 10:08 pm, and later escalated to Level-2 at 10:16 pm. Firefighters brought the fire under control and extinguished it fully by around 1 am.
The fire was confined to electrical wiring, an air-conditioning unit, household articles, a sofa, a bed, a false ceiling, and kitchen utensils, covering an area of roughly 4,000 square feet. The exact cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained.
Eight persons were reported injured in the incident. Two were taken to Cooper Hospital, while six were shifted to Nanavati Hospital.
At Cooper Hospital, 30-year-old fireman Manoj Sonavane and 29-year-old Shivam Dwivedi were treated and discharged. At Nanavati Hospital, 2.5-year-old Abir and 23-year-old Ankita were declared brought dead. The other four injured persons — Parth (32), Hiren (64), Yashasvi (33), and Abhishek — were reported to be stable. Yashasvi and Abhishek were treated and discharged.
Officials from the Mumbai Fire Brigade and local authorities are investigating the incident. Further details are awaited.
