Mumbai biker, 24, dies after vehicle hits her during Bastar tour in Chhattisgarh
A 24-year-old woman from Mumbai died after being struck by a vehicle while on a biking tour in Chhattisgarh's Balod district on Wednesday (August 12, 2026). The woman was part of a group of 20 bikers who had planned to travel from Raipur to Bastar.
The deceased was identified as Riddhi Divyesh Thakkar, a resident of Borivali West in Maharashtra. According to social media posts shared by fellow riders, the group had completed the earlier leg of their journey from Nagpur to Raipur a day before the accident.
The incident took place near Markatola Ghat in Balod district. Police said Thakkar was hit by an unidentified four-wheeler, suspected to be a truck, resulting in severe injuries and fractures to both her legs.
Balod Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan said a call was made to the '112' emergency service, and a vehicle from the Charama police station area transported her to the community health centre in Charama. She was later referred to Shriram Hospital in Dhamtari, where she passed away during treatment. A post-mortem examination is being conducted at the District Hospital in Dhamtari.
The accident site falls under the jurisdiction of the Purur police station, where an FIR will be registered. As of Wednesday evening, the driver and the vehicle involved had not been identified.
Police said the group comprised bikers from different parts of Maharashtra. After the incident, fellow bikers were reportedly returning to their homes.
The tragedy highlights the risks associated with long-distance motorcycle tours, especially on unfamiliar highways. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules. Investigations are ongoing to trace the vehicle involved.
