MPSC Postpones Three Major 2026 Examinations Over Question Paper Security Concerns
The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has postponed three major examinations, citing concerns over the security of question papers following recent question paper leak issues. The decision, announced by the commission, affects thousands of candidates preparing for state government recruitment.
According to the commission, the 2026 Main Examinations for State Services, Maharashtra Civil Engineering Services, and Maharashtra Group-B (Non-Gazetted) posts have been postponed. A revised schedule for all three examinations will be released separately, the commission said.
The 2026 State Services Main Examination was scheduled to be held from October 3 to November 1. The commission has not yet announced fresh dates for any of the three examinations, and no timeline has been given for when the revised schedule will be published.
It is also not yet clear whether the existing question papers will be cancelled and new papers prepared. The commission has not made any statement on this aspect so far. Until it does, candidates have no confirmation on whether they will be examined on the same syllabus, pattern or question set as originally planned.
The postponement comes amid wider concern about the integrity of recruitment examinations. Question paper leaks at various levels of government recruitment have been reported in recent years, prompting scrutiny of how examination papers are set, printed, transported and stored, and of the role of agencies contracted to handle these stages.
The MPSC is a constitutional body constituted under Article 315 of the Constitution, which provides for a Public Service Commission in each state. Its mandate is to conduct examinations and assist the state government in selecting candidates for appointment to state services and posts. Its examinations, particularly the State Services examination, are among the most competitive entry routes into the Maharashtra administrative framework.
The State Services examination is the commission's flagship recruitment process. It is conducted in stages, with the Main examination being the written stage that follows the preliminary screening test. Civil Engineering Services and Group-B (Non-Gazetted) examinations cover technical and administrative roles across state departments.
For candidates, the postponement means uncertainty and, in many cases, additional months of preparation and financial strain. Examination calendars for these posts are often planned around academic cycles and other competitive tests, and repeated rescheduling can affect candidates who are simultaneously preparing for other recruitment processes.
Candidates are advised to rely only on official communication from the MPSC. Unverified schedules and claims about the reasons for the postponement are likely to circulate on social media and messaging platforms, and acting on such information can lead to missed deadlines or misplaced preparation.
What is known so far is limited: three examinations stand postponed, and a revised schedule is awaited. The commission has not disclosed the specific incidents that prompted the decision, whether any enquiry has been ordered, or whether question papers will be re-set. These are the questions candidates and the public will be watching for in the days ahead.
