MP Power Engineer Under Scanner: Assets Worth ₹7.16 Crore Found, Salary Only ₹2 Crore

The Lokayukta police conducted raids on Tuesday (July 21, 2026) across multiple cities in Madhya Pradesh, targeting a Superintendent Engineer (SE) of the state-run power distribution company. The searches uncovered disproportionate assets and expenditures exceeding ₹7.16 crore, according to officials.

The accused officer, Shivram Semil, is a Superintendent Engineer with the Madhya Pradesh West Zone Electricity Distribution Company (DISCOM), posted at its headquarters in Indore. Simultaneous searches were carried out at nine locations in Indore, Dhar, and Morena, revealing factories and properties registered in the names of his family members.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajesh Sahay stated that a complaint alleging disproportionate assets was received against Semil, leading to a case under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. During the raids, it was found that Semil owns a three-storey house in Indore valued at ₹1.2 crore.

Further investigations revealed industrial units, plots of land, and under-construction factories related to transformer manufacturing and electrical equipment in the names of Semil's son, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, brother-in-law, and other close relatives. These assets are located in the Pithampur and Ujjaini industrial areas of Dhar district, with investments totaling crores of rupees.

The searches also uncovered several business offices in Indore, a plot of land, an electric car, and a two-storey house in Morena. SP Sahay noted that Semil's total income during his 33 years of government service is approximately ₹2 crore, while preliminary investigations have revealed expenditures of more than ₹7.16 crore by him and his close relatives.

"This expenditure is more than three times the salary income of a superintendent engineer," Sahay said. The documents, investments, and other assets recovered are being evaluated, and further probe is underway.
