Mother of Bengal Rape-Murder Accused Demands Death Penalty for Son if Guilty
In a tragic case of rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas, the mother of one of the three arrested accused has demanded the harshest punishment for her son if found guilty. Sandhya Mondal, mother of Prabhash Mondol, said, 'If my son is involved, he should be hanged with the other accused.'
The girl went missing on Saturday evening. Her body was discovered the next morning in a sack in a local pond. A post-mortem confirmed she was raped and thrown into the pond while alive. Police have arrested three men in their 30s from the same neighbourhood: Prabhash Mondol, Dibakar Sardar, and Ananda Sardar. A fourth suspect remains unidentified and is being sought.
Prabhash's mother, a domestic help, said her son worked in catering and had recently fallen into bad company. 'He used to be good, but now he drinks. I tried to persuade him, but he wouldn't listen,' she added. The family lives near the victim's home.
In contrast, Dibakar Sardar's mother, Madhubala Sardar, claimed her son is innocent, alleging police arrested the wrong person. 'My son returned home from our fish shop at 8 pm and did not go out again. He cannot commit such a crime.' She added that police have not allowed the family to meet him.
The third accused, Ananda Sardar, worked as a driver alongside the victim's father. His house was ransacked by an angry mob after the body was found, and his family fled. He was later arrested in the Baruipur market area.
Separately, a 26-year-old man, Indrajeet Mondol, was lynched by a mob on suspicion of involvement. Police are investigating the role of each accused, including reports that they consumed intoxicants before the assault. The investigation continues based on evidence, witness statements, and scientific analysis.
