Monsoon Session Begins with Disruptions: Both Houses Adjourned Amid Opposition Protests

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Monday that every voice should have an opportunity to be heard in Parliament, emphasising that where facts are strong, there is no need for chaos. He urged all parliamentarians to participate in discussions with logic and facts.

However, both Houses of Parliament were adjourned shortly after reconvening for the Monsoon Session. In the Lok Sabha, the House was first adjourned until noon. After reconvening, proceedings lasted only seven minutes before being adjourned again due to heavy sloganeering by Opposition members.

Speaker Om Birla began the session by paying homage to former MPs who had passed away. Soon after, Opposition members began raising slogans, leading to chaos. Despite repeated requests from the Chair to allow smooth proceedings, the sloganeering continued, resulting in adjournment until 12:30 pm.

Earlier, PM Modi had said, 'Our Parliament also has many experienced parliamentarians, regardless of their party affiliation. At a time like this, both Parliament and the nation need their experience and knowledge. Therefore, I believe the need of the hour is the functioning of Parliament, meaningful discussions, and a collective resolve to take the nation forward.'

In the Rajya Sabha, proceedings were adjourned until noon amid an uproar related to protests by the Cockroach Janta Party at Jantar Mantar. After papers were laid, Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue of the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, stating it concerned the future of lakhs of students. Kharge alleged that the government was trying to suppress the issue. Amid the uproar, Chairman CP Radhakrishnan adjourned the House.
