Mission Kayakalp: Delhi government schools' upgrade nears completion, says CM Rekha Gupta

The Delhi government's ambitious project to overhaul infrastructure in government schools, Mission Kayakalp, is on the verge of completion, officials have confirmed.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the initiative aims to transform government schools into 'safe, clean, modern and inspiring learning spaces', moving beyond their traditional role as mere centres of education. The programme specifically targets critical infrastructure gaps, including leaking roofs, damaged toilets, outdated science laboratories, inadequate drinking water facilities, and poor campus maintenance, according to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office.

Renovation work has been taken up across multiple districts—North, South, West, North-East, and Outer North—ensuring widespread coverage. During the summer vacation period, the Chief Minister instructed officials to expedite repair work to improve basic facilities and upgrade classrooms and campus conditions, sources said.

The project is expected to significantly enhance the learning environment for thousands of students in the capital, addressing long-standing complaints about the state of government school infrastructure. Officials have not provided a specific date for full completion but indicated that the final phases are underway.
