Milk to Cost More in Maharashtra: Rs 2 Per Litre Hike Announced, Effective August 11
Milk prices in Maharashtra are set to increase by Rs 2 per litre from August 11, after representatives of major cooperative and private dairies approved a hike on Sunday. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Milk Producers and Processors Welfare Association, chaired by its president, Gopalrao Mhaske.
According to the association, the recent rise in input costs has made the price revision necessary. Diesel prices have climbed by Rs 10 per litre, while packaging expenses have gone up by around 30 per cent. Additionally, the procurement price of milk has risen, and further increases are anticipated.
In view of these cost pressures, the association has decided to increase the selling price of milk by Rs 2 per litre and the prices of dairy products by up to 10 per cent. The revised rates will be effective from August 11, it stated.
The hike will impact both cow and buffalo milk. While the move is intended to help producers and processors offset higher operational costs, it is expected to add to the monthly grocery bills of households in the state.
