Mexico vs Ecuador World Cup clash delayed by thunderstorm in Mexico City
A thunderstorm over the Mexico City Stadium area has forced a delay to the Round of 32 match between Mexico and Ecuador in the FIFA World Cup. The storm began two hours before the scheduled kick-off, according to the Associated Press.
As of now, no official announcement has been made regarding a new start time for the knockout fixture. Mexico, one of the three co-hosts of the 2026 World Cup alongside Canada and the United States, were hoping to leverage home advantage to progress further in the tournament.
Historically, Mexico has achieved its best World Cup performances—reaching the quarter-finals—when hosting the tournament, in 1970 and 1986. The team and fans will be eager for the match to begin once weather conditions permit.
