Meta AI Assistant Gains Task Automation, Research, and Presentation Features
Meta has announced a significant upgrade to its AI assistant, introducing capabilities that enable the system to perform complex tasks beyond basic question answering. The update, powered by Meta's new Muse Spark 1.1 model, allows the assistant to plan activities, integrate with applications such as email and calendars, conduct web research, and generate presentations.
The company describes this as a step toward creating a 'personal superintelligence' — an AI that understands user context, works proactively, and executes tasks with minimal human intervention. Instead of requiring repeated prompts, the upgraded assistant is designed to handle multi-step requests from start to finish.
Examples provided by Meta include planning a home renovation, where the AI can understand a user's style preferences, search for furniture within a budget, and create a visual mood board. Similarly, the assistant can build a personalised half-marathon training plan that adjusts to a user's schedule and sends weekly updates. For event organisation, it can check calendars and suggest suitable dates and venues.
The AI can also provide daily briefings by summarising calendar events, highlighting scheduling conflicts, and notifying users about changes to planned activities. Additional features include generating recurring meal plans, sending alerts for product launches, and providing regular updates on topics a user follows.
Beyond productivity, the assistant gains research capabilities. Meta says it can synthesise information from the web, including research papers and content from creators and communities on Meta's platforms. Users can then ask the AI to transform its findings into presentation slides. During content generation, users can edit the output in real time by requesting changes in focus, tone, or content sections. All generated content is stored in a central location for future access and sharing.
Meta states that these capabilities are enabled by the Muse Spark 1.1 model, which is designed to work with users' applications, plan tasks, and follow through from initiation to completion. The features are currently rolling out in select markets through the Meta AI app and Meta.ai, with plans to expand to more countries and additional platforms, including WhatsApp, in the coming weeks. Users will continue to have access to Incognito chats for private conversations.
This development comes as major technology companies race to enhance AI assistants with more autonomous capabilities. While Meta emphasises convenience and efficiency, experts note that such systems raise questions about data privacy, reliance on AI for decision-making, and potential errors in automated planning.
