Medical shop owner hacked to death in public on Madiwala Main Road; police suspect revenge link
Bengaluru, August 22, 2026: A 40-year-old medical shop owner was attacked and killed by a group of armed men on Madiwala Main Road on Saturday night, in an incident witnessed by numerous motorists and pedestrians. The police have registered a case and formed three teams to investigate the murder.
The deceased has been identified as Suheil, a resident of Mangammanapalya. He ran a medical shop in Bommanahalli. According to the police, Suheil was travelling from Madiwala towards Koramangala on his two-wheeler around 10 p.m. when he got stuck in traffic near Madiwala. Four assailants on two motorcycles allegedly surrounded him and attacked him with machetes.
The attackers continued the assault in full public view before fleeing the spot, leaving behind the weapons. The Madiwala police arrived soon after, conducted a preliminary investigation, and shifted the body to a hospital for post-mortem.
The police have recovered CCTV footage from the area and are examining it to identify the assailants. Preliminary findings suggest the attack was planned in advance, with the gang possibly monitoring Suheil's movements and intercepting him at a point where he was forced to stop due to traffic.
Investigators suspect that the murder may be a retaliatory attack linked to the killing of a rowdy-sheeter, Shabir, at Bandepalya on August 13. Suheil's brothers, Khalim and Nazir, along with another associate, were reportedly accused in that murder case. While Khalim remains in judicial custody, Nazir was released on bail about a month ago.
Police said they are probing whether associates of Shabir targeted Suheil as part of a revenge attack. However, they have not yet established the exact motive. Suheil reportedly had no criminal record and was leading a normal life running his medical shop.
Three special teams have been formed to track down the accused. The teams are examining CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas, and are gathering information about the suspects' movements before and after the attack. Police are also investigating why Suheil had travelled to Madiwala shortly before the murder and whether someone had called him there.
Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
