Man Dies After Trying to Snatch Rifle; Shutdown in Doda, Kishtwar
JAMMU: A partial shutdown disrupted normal life in Doda and Kishtwar districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday following the death of a 30-year-old man in an altercation with police near Bhaderwah town. Mobile internet services remained suspended for the second consecutive day as a precautionary measure.
Shops and business establishments remained closed across most parts of the districts on Saturday. The shutdown was called by the Markaz-e-Seerat committee in response to the incident.
Aarif Hussain, a resident of Cheeka village in Doda, allegedly attempted to snatch a service rifle from a Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel at a checkpoint near Bhaderwah. According to police, a jawan opened fire, injuring Hussain and three SOG personnel. Hussain later succumbed to his injuries.
An FIR has been lodged by police under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including attempt to murder and causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter a public servant from his duty. Further investigation is underway.
Authorities have urged calm and called for cooperation in maintaining law and order.
