Man dies after collapsing during Puri temple procession

A 57-year-old man from Cuttack died after collapsing during the Bahuda Yatra, the return chariot procession of Lord Jagannath, in Puri on Friday, officials said.

The incident occurred amid a large crowd of devotees who had gathered to pull the chariots. According to health department officials, the man collapsed while participating in the procession. He was taken to a nearby health centre and later to the Puri district headquarters hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

A preliminary report indicates that the deceased had high blood pressure. Officials said the body will be handed over to family members after a post-mortem examination. Senior officers are monitoring the situation.

The Bahuda Yatra marks the return journey of Lord Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra, and sister Subhadra from the Gundicha Temple to the Jagannath Temple. Large crowds gather annually for the event.
