Maharashtra Voter Revision: 68% Forms Distributed, Mumbai and Pune Districts Lag Behind

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Maharashtra has reached its halfway mark, with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) distributing 68.62 per cent of enumeration forms as of July 14, according to Election Commission data. However, urban districts including Mumbai, Pune, Thane and Palghar are significantly behind the state average.

The door-to-door verification exercise, which began on June 30, is scheduled to continue until July 29. Maharashtra had 9.78 crore registered voters as of June 30, 2026. Enumeration forms have been distributed to 6.71 crore voters, of which 2.21 crore forms have been digitised.

In Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban, only 29.94 per cent and 38.25 per cent of forms have been distributed, respectively. Pune district recorded 47.2 per cent, while Thane and Palghar stand at 37.39 per cent and 35 per cent. Election Commission officials attributed the slower pace to extremely heavy rainfall during the first week of July.

In contrast, rural districts fared better. Sindhudurg recorded the highest distribution rate at 97.07 per cent, followed by Gondia at 96.27 per cent. Most other districts have distributed between 80 and 95 per cent of forms.

Manohar Parkar, Deputy Secretary and Joint Chief Electoral Officer of Maharashtra, said the heavy rain in early July slowed the exercise in urban districts. “They have picked up pace now and the percentage will rise. There are still 15 days remaining,” he said. Parkar added that it was too early to say whether the deadline would be extended, but the aim is to complete 100 per cent distribution.
