Maharashtra allows bars, restaurants to stay open till 4 AM for FIFA World Cup final

The Maharashtra government has permitted licensed hotels, restaurants, and bars across the state to remain open until 4 a.m. on Monday to facilitate screening of the FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and Spain, according to an official order.

The Home Department issued the directive on Saturday (July 18) following a request from the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), Mumbai, which sought an extension of operating hours for hospitality establishments on the night of the final.

The order, issued under the Maharashtra Police Act, states that the relaxation applies only to the FIFA World Cup final and only to licensed hotels, restaurants, and bars.

The government directed establishments to deploy adequate private security personnel to prevent traffic congestion and maintain law and order in and around their premises. It warned that any untoward incident or violation of law would attract action against the establishment under relevant legal provisions.

The order also asked establishments to comply with all licence conditions and directions issued by the Excise Department and local authorities. It clarified that the extended timings would not apply to any establishments other than licensed hotels, restaurants, and bars.

District administrations and police have been directed to ensure strict implementation of the order, while all establishments have been instructed to cease operations immediately after 4 a.m.
