LPG eKYC Deadline Extended to August 31, Bringing Relief to Consumers
The last date for completing the electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) process for domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) connections has been extended to August 31, offering relief to households that missed the earlier August 23 deadline. The extension was confirmed by a senior official in the oil industry, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
State-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) — Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) — have been urging consumers to complete the Aadhaar-based biometric authentication to continue receiving LPG refills at subsidised domestic rates. The official said that those who have not yet completed the e-KYC will receive text messages informing them of the new deadline.
According to official statistics, India has approximately 32.97 crore active domestic LPG consumers. Of these, 1.26 crore are in Telangana. In that state, about 82% of consumers have already completed the e-KYC process. The extension is expected to help increase compliance further.
In the days leading up to the original deadline, LPG distribution agencies in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana saw unusually high footfall as consumers rushed to complete the process. Many users also chose to complete e-KYC through the respective OMC mobile apps, a route that was convenient for those whose Aadhaar numbers were already linked to their LPG connections. Across Telangana, approximately 20,000 to 30,000 customers completed e-KYC daily in the last few days, the official said.
The official assured that LPG refills would continue to be supplied even after the August 31 deadline. However, the rate at which refills are provided to consumers who remain non-compliant with e-KYC requirements will depend on directives from the Petroleum Ministry. No official communication on this matter has been issued yet, sources said.
Jagan Mohan Reddy, president of the Telangana LPG Distributors Association, confirmed that the deadline extension had been conveyed orally by OMC officials to distributors.
The e-KYC requirement is part of the government's efforts to streamline subsidy delivery and ensure that benefits reach the intended beneficiaries. Consumers are advised to complete the process at the earliest to avoid any disruption in their LPG supply.
