Leopard drags 5-year-old girl from family shed in Pune; body recovered from field

In a tragic incident in Pune district's Shirur taluka, a five-year-old girl was taken by a leopard from the shed where she slept with her family early on Wednesday. The girl's body was later found in a nearby sugarcane field.

According to forest department and police officials, the incident occurred in Pimpalsuti village at around 2.40 am. The leopard entered the premises where the family, who work as farm labourers, were staying next to a cattle shed. The girl was identified as Bhagyashree Sandeep Ware, a resident of Karodi village in Ahilyanagar's Pathardi taluka.

The family members, who work as farm labourers in Shirur, were sleeping in a shed on a local farmer's property when the attack took place. Upon hearing a noise, the girl's father woke up and saw the leopard carrying her away. Despite attempts to scare the animal, it fled into a sugarcane field with the child. The family later found her body in the field.

Forest department officials have launched a search for the leopard and urged residents to remain cautious. The incident highlights the growing conflict between humans and wildlife in areas bordering forests.
