Landslip Disrupts Train Services in Mysuru Division, Restoration Underway

A landslip between Yedakumari and Shrivagilu stations in the Mysuru Division of South Western Railway (SWR) has caused major disruption to train services, leading to short-termination and partial cancellation of several express trains on August 1.

The affected trains include Train No. 16585 SMVT Bengaluru-Murudeshwar Express, which was short-terminated at Hassan instead of Murudeshwar and partially cancelled between Hassan and Murudeshwar. Similarly, Train No. 16511 KSR Bengaluru-Kozhikode Express was short-terminated at Hassan instead of Kozhikode, and Train No. 17377 Vijayapura-Mangaluru Central Express was short-terminated at Hassan instead of Mangaluru Central.

Train No. 16595 KSR Bengaluru-Karwar Express was short-terminated at Sakleshpur instead of Karwar, while Train No. 16586 Murudeshwar-SMVT Bengaluru Express was short-terminated at Subrahmanya Road, and Train No. 16512 Kozhikode-KSR Bengaluru Express was short-terminated at Kabaka Puttur. Train No. 17378 Mangaluru Central-Vijayapura Express was also short-terminated at Subrahmanya Road.

SWR officials confirmed that restoration work is under way at the affected location, where repeated landslips have occurred due to heavy rainfall. The hilly terrain in the region is particularly vulnerable to such incidents during the monsoon season. Additional earthmovers and resources have been deployed to expedite the restoration process.

The railway administration is continuously monitoring the situation and coordinating efforts to ensure safe and efficient restoration of train operations. Passengers have been advised to check official SWR channels for any further changes in services. The release from SWR, Hubballi, expressed deep regret for the inconvenience caused and assured that all possible measures are being taken to minimise disruptions.

This section of the Mysuru Division is a key link for passengers travelling between Bengaluru and coastal Karnataka, and the disruption has affected daily commuters and long-distance travellers alike. Railway authorities are also working to provide alternative arrangements and refunds for affected passengers as per existing rules.

Local residents have noted that such landslips are not uncommon during heavy rains, and the railways have been undertaking preventive measures to strengthen vulnerable slopes.
