Ladakh Opens 2,000 Paid Internships for Youth Across 25 Government Departments
The Ladakh administration has announced 2,000 paid internship opportunities for students and young professionals across 25 government departments. Applications opened on August 22 and will close on September 5, 2026. Selected candidates will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000 for the three-month programme.
The initiative, named the LG Yuva Internship Programme, was launched by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena through the 'Zhabstok Ladakh' Youth Internship Portal. The portal is accessible at internship.ladakh.gov.in, where applicants can submit their details, upload required documents, and track their application status.
According to the administration, the internship is designed to give young people first-hand exposure to public administration and governance. Interns will be placed across various departments based on their skills and interests. They will observe how policies and proposals are turned into on-ground projects, and may contribute their own ideas to departmental work.
Ladakh has a large youth population, with a significant proportion below the age of 30. The administration expects the programme to draw more young people into government-linked initiatives and create a pipeline of future civil servants and public policy professionals.
The internship will run for an initial three months, beginning September 17, 2026. Document verification is scheduled from September 6 to September 14, 2026. Candidates will need to complete verification before they can join the programme.
Outstanding performers may be offered a three-month extension, depending on their evaluation during the first phase. All interns who successfully complete the programme will receive certificates, which could add value to their academic and professional profiles.
Application requirements include eligibility criteria, educational qualifications, and necessary identification documents. Candidates are advised to review the instructions on the official portal before submitting their forms. The portal provides a full list of participating departments and the number of seats available in each.
The programme is part of broader efforts by the Union Territory administration to engage youth in governance and development work. In a region where distance from mainstream employment opportunities can be a challenge, such initiatives offer a structured entry point for young aspirants.
Officials said the internship would be particularly useful for students pursuing degrees in public administration, social sciences, management, and related fields. However, eligibility is not restricted to specific disciplines, allowing a wide range of applicants to apply.
Ladakh, which became a Union Territory in 2019, has been focusing on youth skill development and employment generation. The internship scheme is seen as a step towards bridging the gap between academic learning and practical governance.
Interested candidates should visit internship.ladakh.gov.in and complete the registration before the September 5 deadline. Given the competitive nature of the programme, early submission is recommended. The administration has not announced any application fees.
The launch of the portal was part of a weekend event attended by local officials and youth representatives. Lieutenant Governor Saxena, speaking at the event, highlighted the importance of involving young people in the development journey of Ladakh and encouraged them to use this opportunity to learn and contribute.
With 2,000 positions available, this is among the largest internship drives in the region. The initiative is expected to strengthen the local workforce and provide meaningful work experience to thousands of young Ladakhis.
