Kyiv Strike Kills One, Injures 12 as Russia Steps Up Missile Attacks
At least one person was killed and 12 others injured after Russia launched a wave of ballistic missiles and drones at Kyiv and its surrounding areas on Wednesday, according to Ukrainian authorities.
The head of Kyiv's military administration, Timur Tkachenko, said the “enemy is once again massively attacking the Kyiv region,” with strikes hitting residential buildings and warehouses. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said there were concerns that people might be trapped under rubble following attacks in the city centre.
Air raid alerts remained in place for more than an hour as successive waves of missiles targeted the capital and its outskirts. Tkachenko reported that the “consequences of the enemy attack are being recorded in the Bucha, Brovary, and Fastiv districts of the region.” He urged residents not to ignore air raid sirens, saying, “Take care of yourselves, your loved ones, and your family.”
Wednesday's assault is part of an intensified Russian campaign against Kyiv in recent weeks. The strikes come as Ukraine has increased its own attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure, including power facilities and logistics hubs. Ukrainian drones have repeatedly targeted warehouses of the Russian e-commerce giant Wildberries. On Tuesday, five people were killed and ten wounded in the Moscow region in the most recent strikes on Wildberries depots. The previous day, Russian officials said seven people were killed and 58 injured in a drone attack on a beach in the southern Krasnodar region.
Meanwhile, Ukraine expressed outrage over a video showing a man being chased by a drone in the city of Kherson, calling it a deliberate “hunt” and “safari” targeting civilians. Both sides have denied deliberately targeting civilians.
In response to the ongoing attacks, Ukraine has renewed its appeal to allies for additional US-made Patriot missile interceptors to better defend against Russian ballistic missiles. The latest strikes highlight the continued volatility of the conflict and the heavy toll on civilian populations.
