Kozhikode: Trader Stabbed to Death in Kozhikode After Bar Clash; Suspect Arrested
Kozhikode: A 39-year-old trader died after being stabbed on Mavoor Road late on Friday (July 31, 2026) following an altercation that reportedly began inside a local bar. The police have arrested the accused, identified as Najeeb Muhammad, alias Sulthan, a resident of Nadakkavu.
The deceased has been identified as Aadil Roshan, a trader from S.M. Street in Kozhikode city. According to police sources, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. near the KSRTC bus stand, after a scuffle between the two men, who were acquainted with each other, escalated.
The clash is said to have first erupted inside a bar, following which the individuals involved were asked to leave the premises. However, the argument continued on the street, culminating in the fatal stabbing.
Local auto-rickshaw drivers rushed the injured man to a private hospital in the city. He had sustained a deep stab wound on the chest. Although he was immediately taken to the operation theatre for emergency surgery, he succumbed to his injuries within minutes of admission.
The accused was taken into custody late at night from the Nadakkavu area after he fled the scene. Police have registered a case and are conducting further investigation. Authorities have also said that the weapon used in the attack is yet to be recovered.
The incident has left the trading community in the area shaken, as Mavoor Road is a busy thoroughfare with considerable foot traffic even at night. The police have urged the public not to resort to speculation regarding the motive behind the attack.
As of now, no official statement on the possible reason for the altercation has been released. The police are gathering statements from witnesses and reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity to piece together the sequence of events.
