Kota administration assures five women with kidney failure of free treatment, expedited transplant
The district administration of Kota and Government Medical College authorities have signed a written agreement with the families of five women suffering from kidney failure after childbirth, promising free treatment, priority dialysis, and an expedited kidney transplant. The agreement also includes financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh for each patient.
The pact was finalised during a meeting chaired by Dr Nilesh Kumar Jain, Principal and Controller of Government Medical College, and attended by Additional District Collector (City) Vinod Kumar Malhotra and Dr Vikas Khandelia, Head of Nephrology at the Super Speciality Hospital in Kota.
The five women, who underwent Caesarean sections at Kota’s New Medical College between May 5 and 7, have been hospitalised in the Nephrology ward since then. Earlier this week, they had written to President Droupadi Murmu requesting urgent intervention for an organ transplant, stating that they should either receive a new kidney or be allowed to end their lives.
The district administration's assurance marks a step towards addressing the critical health needs of these mothers. Officials said the financial aid of Rs 2 lakh is intended to support their families during this difficult period.
Kidney failure after childbirth, though rare, can occur due to complications such as preeclampsia, severe infections, or mismatched blood transfusions. The condition requires immediate medical attention, including dialysis and, in severe cases, a kidney transplant.
Kota's Super Speciality Hospital is equipped to handle such cases, and the nephrology department has been directed to give these patients top priority for dialysis sessions. The administration has also promised to fast-track the process of matching donors for transplantation.
