An under-construction warehouse in Kolkata's Taratala area collapsed on Wednesday afternoon, leaving several workers feared trapped under the debris. Rescue operations are underway with the involvement of the Indian Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and Kolkata Police.

As of the latest reports, 13 people have been rescued and taken to the nearest hospital, according to an official who spoke to The Hindu. Local witnesses at the accident site stated that between 50 and 60 workers were present at the site when the structure gave way. Rescue teams have begun cutting through iron beams to reach those trapped.

The Indian Army's Eastern Command deployed four columns of personnel for search and rescue operations following a distress call from the civil administration. A specialised team comprising rescue personnel, engineers, and medical staff is assisting in the efforts. Coordination with NDRF, SDRF, and Kolkata Police is ongoing to locate individuals believed to be trapped under heavy concrete debris.

The West Bengal Government's Disaster Management Department has set up a control room for public inquiries.
