The Union Minister of State for AYUSH, Prataprao Jadhav, announced that Kolkata will host the national-level International Yoga Day celebration on June 21, 2026, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to attend. The main event will be held at Red Road, and over 35,000 registrations have already been received.

West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, addressing a press conference at Nabanna, appealed to citizens to participate in large numbers. He outlined a three-day programme beginning June 19 with a 'Run for Yoga' across the state. In Kolkata, the run will start from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation headquarters and conclude at Writers' Buildings. Similar runs will be held at 11 other locations in the city and in various districts.

Minister Jadhav stated that this year's celebrations would be 'on an unprecedented scale'. The event aims to promote the practice of yoga for physical and mental well-being, aligning with the global observance of International Yoga Day.
